My Yngwie Malmsteen overdose
In Norway ( as in other parts of the world), we have a rite, when you are about 14-15, called confirmation. If you dont know what this is I found someone who describes it a whole lot better than me here: https://www.littlescandinavian.com/2017/05/08/confirmation-in-norway-all-you-will-need-to-know/
As most people I had one too, and I was allowed to spend some of the gift money on something I wanted, right away. The next day, I went straight to the local kiosk, to buy me a casette of « Justice for all» and Yngwie Malmsteens album Odyssey, that just had been released.
I had been listening to some of Malmsteens incredible fast and virotuos guitarplaying, and really wanted to own some of his music. I really loved it, and spendt hours of listening to it. Then my friends, - with some help from me, discovered how exellent it was, and some of them bought it too, - even some that was not that in to metal at all.
One of my best friends, really loved the ballad « Dreaming» and wanted us to play the album even more, she actually begged everyone to play it, everytime she could, because she didn’t have the album herself. We said: « Let us listen to the new Judas Priest album « ram it down» and she would say: Oh, can’t we just listen to «Dreaming», just one more time, please? ..and then we did..
We said: Let us put some Metallica, Iron Maiden or Jimi Hendrix on! ...and she said, «Ok, - but then we have to listen to Yngwie Malmsteen, afterwards! «.
...and then we did that...
After even more people began to worship this record, I finally got so tired of it, that I stopped listening to it, for at least ten years. Now, after almost 32 years, to date, I have not heard trough the entire album again.
