The story about a picture of Udo, a catamaran boat and what happened almost 20 years later
When I was about 14, I had a quite innocent relationship with a boyfriend, who lived on an island about an hours travel by boat, from the tiny small town I lived in. We rarely met, but sometimes we talked on the phone.
This boy, was a big fan of Accept.
One day, when I had him on the phone, he told me that he and his father, would go to one of the nearest towns, because he had time with the orthodontist to remove his braces. That ment that they would be travelling by the place where I lived, and we decided to meet, when the boat docked.
Me and one of my friends, went down to the dock, to wait for him. The boat came, but no boyfriend was around, Then my eyes fell on a little piece of paper, laying on the ground, with a small stone over it, I picked it up, and discovered a picture of Udo Dirkschneider.
I immediately knew that this was a sign left for me, and that my boyfriend and his father had travelled with a boat that went earlier.
He told me that he was a bit puzzled, because he didn`t know how to tell me that they had travelled early, so he put the Picture from a Magazine there, as an attemt to let me know, but thinking it would not work.
....and then: A rainy thursday evening early in december, nearly 20 years later, I sat alone in my apartment, - a bit sad, because I would have to spend the christmas on my one, as my kids, should be with their father, and I couldn't afford to take a plane down south to my mother.
I had seen some posters hanging around, about a concert with some cover band at the pub/ student community, so I went down there, to meet people, and have a good time. Instead of sitting at home, feeling blue.
I had never heard about the band, but when I was talking to some people outside the pub, the sound engineer, from the student community, came out and told us, that they sounded really good. When the band started to play, and it was incredible! Some of the songs, was better than the original, and the classic metal/ hardrock classics, was really good too.
We were just a few people there, but after a while, people started calling and texting, their friends to come down at the pub, and take a look at this great band. ( The next time the band showed up, a few months later, there was a full house)
At first, I was thinking that this was a somewhat local band, and I even thought that the guitarplayer was someone I knew a bit from my "green youth", thinking "whydoes this guy seem so familiar? But then I suddenly heard some wery italian like accents.
Here is the band:
Afterwards, I went with some friends to a nachtspiel, we had a good time, somewhat euphorical over the great gig, with an incredible coverband.
It turned out that the band was composed of musicians with experience from Udo, Gotthard, Phil Collins etc..
Then there was someone at the door, and some guy from the student community came with some band members and a sound engineer, that was eager to party. They turned out to be some likeable characters, and as I was having a nice chat, with the guitarplayer of UDO, I just had to tell him the story about how UDO was a part of my early romance.
This gig, was later referred to as one of the most legendary concerts at the student community, with a band that had a super show, with a small crowd who got totally swept off our feet.
..and that was the end of grandmas story.. or was it?
Have a good time! Kath.
