Why Darkthrone got me going through my whole music collection.
A few weeks ago, Darkthrone gave us a taste from their upcoming record release of Old Star,
and the song The hardship of the scots When I heard the first seconds of this song, my first thought was about 1987/1988 and me, carrying a cassette player.
I twisted my brain on why this riff seemed so familiar, and why I was thinking of this year.
As I am the type who like to listen somewhat concentrated on my music, rather than have it playing in the background, I dont have much « music listening time» during a week, as I got most of my kids in the house, and the youngest of them, are still quite dependent on their mother, after I get home from work. So most of my music listening, is when I am driving, alone, and after the kids have gone to bed.
I often find myself remembering parts of music, like great riffs, a good solo, but not the lyrics, the chorus, but not the rest of the song.. and so on..
Well, this made me listen to a lot of the music I owned, before 1989, to find the « twin» of this riff.
Then I asked my better half ( or just my half, depending on the situation 😅 ) who Googled it, when he couldn’t tell me, and solved the mystery.
It was something from a cassette I bought in 1987 or 1988, with this song on it:
PS. I would recommend lending your ear to Darkthrones "Old Star" The album will be released in the end of May., -31 I think.
